This is my life. I am blessed beyond my wildest dreams. I am married to my high school sweetheart. I am crazy about him. Together we have a beautiful son who was born July 30, 2011. This blog is about my Mommy Adventures; all the amazing things I'm learning and want to share.
Preface
My name is Deirdre. I have good intentions for keeping up my blog. It has a funny way of not staying as updated as I'd planned though...

The Day I Quit Facebook.
I've often felt that Facebook was a total time drainer. And quite honestly, a bit of an addiction on my part.
Then there was the inevitable Facebook "drama." (Whether it was created in my head or not, who knows.) Well, yesterday, this girl decided enough was enough. I don't need to know every single update of people I'll never, ever see again. Well, maybe I will. The army, and Aviation especially, are actually quite small. But it was time to move on. So I did it. I deactivated my account.
The people that really matter all have my phone number and email address. They can reach me, and I can just as easily find them. I worry that I'll loose touch with people, but that tells me that I need to do a better job at keeping in touch with people that I care about. A personal text means so much more than a "status update" to all 260 on my list. 259 of whom will not even care. (My mom cares. But she's never on there anyways.)
This also bothered me. I was using it as a place to gather gossip. Gossip is something I struggle with. I hate it, I hate participating in it. Yet, it's so stinking delightfully naughty. I need to close the venue from which I was gathering the evil.
And here we go, delving into true honesty land, but I also found myself judging. Like a lot. Judging whether they were prettier than me. Judging whether I was skinner than them. Judging how they raised their children. Judging, judging, judging. And that, my friend, is just UGLY. I really need to relieve my mind of that yuckiness.
And also, quite frankly, I don't need a blow by blow account of the girl who I met once day. Frankly, as mildly entertaining as it was, I could better spend that time focusing on my beautiful 10 month old son. I could spend that time cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, READING.
So there ya go. The day I said goodbye to Facebook. I won't lie, it's kind of hard not to impulse check it and make sure I'm not aware of Every. Single. Change. But, the truth is, I feel proud of myself. I finally kicks my dirty, time consuming habit.
